Cereal Rust Reports

The first report of wheat stem rust during the growing season has been reported from Victoria. An update is also provided on the reports of wheat stripe rust including pathotype determinations where known.

Samples of wheat leaf rust, barley leaf rust, oat crown rust and oat stem rust have been received in 2016 at the Australian Cereal Rust Survey at the University of Sydney’s Plant Breeding Institute.

Samples of wheat leaf rust have been received from Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia. Samples of wheat stripe rust have been received from southern NSW and Queensland.

Growers are urged to monitor crops for all rusts, in particular wheat leaf rust, after samples of all cereal rusts except stripe rust have been received in 2016 at the Australian Cereal Rust Survey at the University of Sydney’s Plant Breeding Institute.
